POPULAR CHILEAN BEVERAGE: MOTE CON HUESILLOS

Imagen
One of the most popular beverages of the central Chile is the "Mote con Huesillos".   This beverage  is served in the summertime (in these hottest days at this side of the world), required by people and can be found at street stands and some restaurants. The "mote" , is the wheat grain boiled and removed from its husk, generally in an industrial process. The "huesillo" is dried peach. The preparation is to soak the huesillos overnight, then the water of the soaked huesillos is boiled and molasses added. The boiling is about 45 minutes, then let cool down. The mote is boiled in another pot about 30 min., then strain and let them cool down too and be put in the fridge. Finally, in a glass; fill it with mote and the huesillo juice. Ready to drink!! :) in street stands or served in restaurants. It's the ideal drink to quench your thirst. The  (wheat)

CELEBRATION OF THE NEW YEAR IN THE CEMETERY

This weird tradition has its origin in the city of Talca- central zone of Chile- since 1979. The Opazo family get used to climb the  surrounding wall of the General Cemetery just to visit slyly a close relative who worked at that cemetery and later was buried there. So an increasing amount of Talquinos started to do the same: Visiting their deceased relatives to celebrate every new year. Until 1995, when the head of the General Cemetery decided to make this activity official. Since then, many families bring their food and bottles of champagne to celebrate at midnight the new year along with their deceased relatives. http://www.redmaule.com/pasar-la-noche-de-ano-nuevo-en-el-cementerio-fue-elegida-la-tradicion-mas-rara-del-mundo/
